The following message comes from the Managing Director of the Fiji Electricity Authority, Hasmukh Patel:
âAll electrical installations, when in operation, should be checked periodically by licensed electrical contractors for safety and security, in consultation with the electrical installation inspectors of the Fiji Electricity Authority.
âPeriodic checks of electrical installations must comply with the wiring requirements of AS / NZS 3000.
âThere is a possibility of deterioration of insulation and loose connections over the years.
âThe law does not allow customers to do their own electrical work. Accidents and sometimes fatalities can happen because people are not aware of the safety hazards. People should hire licensed electrical contractors to do any electrical work because knowledge and skills are essential.
âDuring the Diwali festival there will be a lot of lights and electrical connections. We would like to urge everyone to take precautions and ensure electrical safety at all times and use the services of registered electrical contractors if necessary.
âPublic safety is of paramount importance to FEA and the government.
“The Authority, on behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of FEA, wishes you all a happy, memorable and secure Deepawali.”
