RW Mercer Co., a Jackson-based family-owned construction and service company, announced it has acquired the assets of a long-time contractor, West Michigan Electrical Systems Inc. in Cedar Springs (north of Grand Rapids).

West Michigan Electrical Systems was founded by owner Brad Kober over 20 years ago and has served oil, industrial and commercial customers for over 20 years. Kober and his team will be based at RW Mercer’s office in the Grand Rapids area in Walker.

They will partner with RW Mercer’s existing electrical team to enhance its current capabilities and expand the company’s ability to provide electrical services to its customers statewide. Kober will serve as Project Manager in RW Mercer’s Electrical Department.

“West Michigan Electrical Systems has built an excellent reputation and we welcome their highly trained electricians. In addition, their expertise in installing electric vehicle charging stations will further strengthen our ability to support electric vehicle transportation infrastructure, ”said Andy Mercer, President of RW Mercer.

RW Mercer has six locations in Michigan and one location in Indiana. It offers services in three areas: the company and the petroleum service, the general contractor and the electricity company. It provides planning, design, construction and installation services, as well as service, monitoring and maintenance.

“I have worked side by side with the RW Mercer team for years and have been impressed with the build quality and the ethics of the company. This partnership is a great opportunity for our employees and brings together the best of both companies to meet customer needs, ”said Kober.

Mercer continued, “While our teams have worked a lot together, Brad and I have only recently met. We had an instant connection and were able to come to an agreement quickly. Growth through acquisition is an effective strategy for us in the electrical industry, and we will continue to assess opportunities to ensure that we are able to meet the current and future needs of our customers.
